Build on Your FREC 3 Foundation

Before undertaking the FREC 4 course, learners must have completed the Level 3 First Response Emergency Care (FREC3) course as this is the essential building block of the FREC pathway.

During FREC 3, you’ll have covered:

  • Scene assessment

  • Basic airway management

  • CPR and AED use

  • Trauma care

  • Emergency care for medical conditions such as strokes, seizures, asthma, and cardiac events

  • Administration of emergency oxygen

  • Basic safeguarding and patient communication skills

These fundamental skills lay the groundwork in order to further your medical knowledge

What Does FREC 4 Cover?

This qualification develops and extends your ability to provide pre-hospital care in a variety of settings, including high-risk environments, remote areas, urgent and emergency care roles. Key components include:

  • Airway management using supraglottic devices

  • Recognition and management of maternal illness and complications

  • Recognition and management of paediatric illness
  • Trauma management

  • Assisting the clinician

  • ECG monitoring and basic interpretation

  • Mental health awareness in pre-hospital care

  • Working effectively in multi-agency emergency situations

  • Clinical decision-making and documentation best practices

Course Details

  • Duration: Typically 5–6 days (plus pre-course study and post-course portfolio completion)

  • Entry Requirements: Valid FREC 3 Qualification

  • Assessment: Practical assessments, written tests, and a learner portfolio

  • Accreditation: Regulated by Qualsafe Awards and part of the FREC qualification framework
