The EFAW course equips learners with the essential skills needed to manage a wide range of emergency situations. Topics include:

  • Core Emergency Skills

    • Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider

    • Assessing an incident and prioritising casualty care

    • Performing CPR on adults, including use of an AED (defibrillator)

  • Managing an unresponsive casualty (including the recovery position)

    • Dealing with choking incidents

    • Managing Injuries and Illnesses
    • Control of bleeding and treatment of wounds

    • Recognising and responding to shock

    • Minor injuries including cuts, grazes, burns, and bruises

    • Seizures and other common medical conditions

  • Legal and Workplace Awareness

    • First aid kit essentials and workplace-specific considerations

    • Incident reporting and accident documentation requirements

    • Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations relating to first aid
